About Us
Kraket is the study association for all Econometrics studies at the VU. Kraket was founded on 14 July 1972 and the name Kraket stands for 'Kritische Actuarissen en Econometristen' ('Critical Actuaries and Econometricians'). The vast majority of econometrics students are members of the study association and there is every reason to do so. In our room (HG-08A30) you can buy Kraket merch, ask questions, work or just come by. The Kraket room is usually open from Monday to Friday, between 10:00 and 17:00. For actual opening hours, you can check our Instagram stories in the highlights.
Kraket unites students and business through casedays, inhousedays and the annual LED (National Econometricians Day), where members can get in touch with companies and orient themselves on the labour market.
Furthermore, a study trip abroad is organised once every year. In 2023 a group of students traveled to Helsinki and Tallinn, where they visited several companies, a university and the Dutch embassy and of course explored the city. Previous study trips, among others, went to Berlin, Marrakesh, Lisbon, Madrid, Istanbul, Copenhagen, Tokyo, New York and Atlanta, Hong Kong and Brazil.
Every quarter, an edition of the Ecotribune will be published. This more informal newspaper includes detailed reports on our activities, as well as all the news on the ins and outs of Kraket. In the past, we also had the more formal online magazine, SECTOR, which featured company articles, interviews, columns and contributions from guest writers and professors. Although SECTOR has been discontinued, all the articles and blogs are still available to read here.
Of course, Kraket also organises fun and relaxing activities. Think of our annual pubquiz, laser tag and various drinks and parties, like the EGW, when we all go to a club to celebrate the end of the exam week. Kraket can also be sporty from time to time, with activities like padel, pool, ice skating and paintball. At the end of the year, the Board organises a weekend trip to a location unknown to the members. During that weekend, the Kraketweekend, you get to know people from other academic years in a relaxing way.
