New year, new SECTOR

Dear readers of SECTOR,

The academic year is already in full swing and with the members of this year’s SECTOR committee assembled we are ready to start publishing once more. We are also very pleased to show everyone the new features the SECTOR webpage has gotten over the summer. These features include; searching on types of articles, pages for authors and their already published articles, and a small tab showing the trending articles.

We are also delighted to showcase our new cast of members, both old and new, which will be the driving force behind SECTOR for the coming years.
We start with our chairman of this year, Martijn van Heusden, who is already familiar with SECTOR and the online environment as he was the board member supervising SECTOR the previous year. He is in his third year of the Econometrics and Operations Research bachelor and an active member of Kraket, as he was not only the general secretary of board 48 but also participated in multiple committees. His skills at organising projects and keeping track of priorities were invaluable last year and will undoubtedly continue to be so this year.

Next we have our former chairman and once more active member Denise van Dijk to bolster the team. Denise is a last year student of the bachelor Econometrics and Operations Research and another very active member of Kraket, having joined multiple committees and doing a tremendous job at organizing last year’s Diversity and Development Day. Her skills at interviewing and formal writing have been a tremendous help to SECTOR last year and will surely continue to be so this year.

We have another member from last year, Just de Groot, joining the committee. He is a second year Econometrics and Operations Research student and excited to get started on the more applied side of the bachelor after a year of laying a mathematical foundation. SECTOR is a wonderful place for this, as all kinds of knowledge from abstract papers to rules of thumb pass through the site, allowing it to become a hub of accessible knowledge.

Now, we have our first new member, Xerxes Koehoorn, who turns out to be a veteran from several years back when SECTOR was still in print. He is doing his masters in Econometrics at the moment.

The second new member of this year’s committee is Pepijn de Veer, an Econometrics and Operations Research student who is extremely active at Kraket and a welcome addition to the committee. He is already fervently working for SECTOR, creating an article concerning the models behind the current corona crisis and writing this very article. His open attitude and ingenuity will be invaluable to SECTOR in the coming year.Lastly, we have our representative from the Kraket board of this year, Tristan de Keyzer. He is another active member of Kraket who has been part of numerous committees hosting all kinds of events, and is also actively helping SECTOR by maintaining good contact with the external affairs officer and even using his own connections to get some more articles. Another incredibly valuable addition to SECTOR which we have the pleasure of working with.

Finally, we wish to address you, the reader, and our appreciation of everyone reading SECTOR. This year will be our second year online, which is a big change in comparison to how SECTOR previously was, and made for an interesting year, as Denise has already detailed in the article ‘A wonderful time coming online’. The audience has become ever more varied, and we all enjoy hearing your thoughts on the different articles, as both the committee members and the authors always enjoy sharing their passion for econometrics.

We want to wish you all a good academic year and we hope you enjoy what SECTOR has to offer this year.

Look forward to the article of next week by Faaris Akbar who tells about his experience as a just graduated student from the bachelor Econometrics and Data Science. He is the first year to graduate from this new programme, and has some valuable insights on the bachelor and some good tips on how to get a good start to your career.
