It’s all about the money, money, money…

Hi everyone, I’m Anne Alberts and I am the treasurer and marketing coordinator of the 52nd board of Kraket. To give you a bit of an impression of what my week looks like, I will take you through a typical week in my life. Of course every week is different, but I hope last week gives you a nice picture of what it looks like to be a board member of Kraket.

Monday

I kick off each week with some marketing tasks. Our opening hours vary weekly, so I created a story detailing the opening hours to let all the members know when they are welcome in the Kraket room. Next to the opening hours, I also make a story with all the planned activities and registration dates of that week. Each monday at 12 o’clock, Micha and I have a ‘one on one’ meeting. We find a place to sit and talk about all the stuff that happened last week and what next week will look like. However, mostly we just talk about our weekend and random stuff. It is good to have a moment to share anything that is on your mind. Today, I had a meeting with the charity committee and the gala committee. Following these meetings, we had the weekly board meeting. During this meeting, we update each other on the previous week and discuss important things and activities that are coming up. Also, when there are important decisions to be made, this is usually the time we do so. After a busy day, it was time to go home.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, I started the day with some shopping for the gala committee. We still needed some things, and typically -as treasurer- I buy the things the committees need. Afterwards, I completed another marketing task: I created the post for the upcoming general assembly and posted this on Instagram and on our website. These posts are made with the Adobe graphical tools. At the start of the year, I did not know anything about Adobe, but you learn along the way. After lunch, I went to Il Caffè for a meeting with the manager. We have an annual contract, and today we discussed the upcoming activities we want to schedule at Il Caffè. As the treasurer I am the contact person with Il Caffè. When I got back to the Kraket room, I updated the expenses in Exact. This is our accounting software. Exact helps me to keep track of all financial details. For every expense, I ask for a receipt, and for every income, I make an invoice. I process all of these in Exact to ensure everything is correct for the tax administration, and we have a clear overview of what has been spent and what is coming in.

Wednesday

Wednesday is usually my ‘Kraket room duty’ day. All board members have one day in the week when they are the Kraket room host. Members can come, ask questions, have their lunch in the Kraket room or just spend some leisure time. This is usually from 10 AM to 5 PM. When I come in, I first make sure everything looks a bit tidy. The first two hours are usually very quiet, this gives me the opportunity to do a lot of work. I checked my email and made sure to reply to everyone. Today, I sent some invoices to companies with which we have a contract. Sometimes, we agree with companies to have an Instagram or LinkedIn post on our accounts. It is my job as the online marketing officer to make this happen. Today, a company requested a post on LinkedIn. I received the post and the accompanying text from the company. My only role was to share it on LinkedIn. During the day, members visit the Kraket room, and then we chat and have a relaxing time on the couch. The General Assembly is coming up again. I am preparing a document with the statements I want to make on our financial status and activities on online marketing. At 5 PM, my Kraket room duty is over. In the evening it was party time: gala Kraket dinner and gala. I only spent one hour at the gala dinner because I had to support the gala committee to decorate the location. We finished just in time, for the start of the gala at 10 PM. We had a great night.

Thursday

On Thursday I had some meetings with committees. As the gala finished late yesterday I was still a bit tired, but the meetings were already planned. First, I had a meeting with the study trip committee. I’m not a member of this committee but each board member is supervising several committees. During this meeting the committee came up with a proposal for the program of the study trip. My role is to support and ensure that we, as the board, know what is happening within the committees. Afterwards, I had a meeting with the sustainability committee. Again, I am not in the committee but just the supervisor. During this meeting they discussed the sustain-a-business day and last week’s progress. Finally, I met with the election committee, which I am a member of. Each year two board members join this committee. During the meeting we came up with our marketing strategy to get as many applications as possible for the next board. After all my meetings, I posted the pictures of the gala on the website. And at the end of the day I chilled for a while in the Kraket room.

Friday

The Kraket board membership is not a full-time position, so everyone generally has one day off. Friday is my day off. Today I'm not doing anything Kraket related except for posting a story on Instagram, which I prepared earlier. In the evening I had dinner with the election committee. Every committee gets 20 euro per person to go to dinner to get to know each other better.
